Description

The lost original Greek statue was a bronze, cast in Sparta, by the sculptor Mirone in 455 b.C.
Today we have few roman marble copies, and the two more famous of them are the one at the Museo Nazionale Romano and the other at the British Museum.
The pose of the athlete while launching the disk is perfect, and this piece of art is considered one of the masterpieces of all times.
The mold used to execute the bronze work using the lost-wax casting process was produced directly in 1932 by Ferdinando Marinelli Sr., and is currently in the collection of the Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli
