Description
The marble sculpture “Rebel Slave” is a statue created by Michelangelo sculpted in 1513 and kept in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The work was part of the project for the tomb of Pope Julius II which was then discarded together with the other prisons in the final project.
The rebellious slave is portrayed as he tries to free himself from the bonds that keep his hands tied behind his back, metaphorically symbolizing one of the Arts taken prisoner after the death of the Pontiff.
